OXFORD COUNTY - It's Tampon Tuesday in Oxford County.
United Way Oxford will be collecting donations of cash and tampons at all of the local Shoppers Drug Mart locations from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. today. The stores also started collecting donations at the cash register a couple of weeks ago ahead of today's event.
Even though the fundraiser is called Tampon Tuesday, Resource Development Manager Amanda Kreiger says they will accept donations of other kinds of feminine hygiene products.
"Women's needs are so different depending on age and preference, so we accept any sort of donations. We'll also talk to the organizations about what works best for the clients that they see and try to provide them with products that make the most sense."
It's a drive-thru fundraiser and Kreiger says all of the donations will be going to local organizations in order to address period poverty in our community.
"Sometimes you have to choose whether you're going to use tampons or you're going to buy peanut butter and bread to feed a couple of lunches in your house and we don't want anybody to have to make that choice.
The fundraiser was a huge hit last year, collecting over 1,400 boxes of feminine hygiene products and raising close to $2,500 cash.
Kreiger called the Heart FM studio yesterday morning to chat with Dan and Marcie about the fundraiser and you can listen to the full interview below. We also have a list of all of the local Shoppers Drug Mart locations.
