United Way Oxford's Women United group will be collecting donations of menstrual hygiene products today for women in need in our community.
OXFORD COUNTY - United Way Oxford's Women United group is looking to shine a light on period poverty today in honour of Tampon Tuesday.
Manager of Resource Development Amanda Kreiger says they're excited to bring back their in-person events at the Kelsey's in Woodstock and Tillsonburg this year.
"Both events are from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and you can drop in and your admission is a box of menstrual hygiene products. You can stay for a drink and there will be some appetizers out at both locations. If you're running short on time you can pop in and make it quick or if you have time to stay, socialize, and network you can as well."
The Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Woodstock, Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Norwich will also accept donations today and all of the proceeds will be staying in our community.
Kreiger says menstrual hygiene products are some of the most requested items at local food banks and they are the least donated.
"Sometimes we see families that miss things in their lives, events, and stuff because they don't have the proper hygiene products. Some also have to make a choice between buying a box of granola bars for lunches this week or menstrual hygiene products, so if we can provide that piece for them it allows the funds to go other places in the month."
This will be the 6th annual Tampon Tuesday in Oxford County and over 1,200 boxes were collected during last year's fundraiser.
Kreiger stopped by the Heart FM studio yesterday to chat with Dan and Marcie and you can listen to the full interview below:
