United Way Oxford is going to hold drive thru donation events at local Shoppers Drug Mart locations for this year's Tampon Tuesday fundraiser.
OXFORD COUNTY - Tampon Tuesday is coming up in Oxford County, but it's going to be a bit different this year.
United Way Oxford will be holding drive-thru donation events at local Shoppers Drug Mart stores on Tuesday March 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
They will be collecting boxes of menstrual products, but Resource Development Manager Amanda Kreiger says you can donate cash as well.
"If we end up with a whole bunch of tampons in one community but need more maxi pads we can always supplement that depending on what the organization receiving the product is really in need of. It's one of the most requested products at food banks and one of the least donated."
Participating Shoppers Drug Mart stores will also accept donations leading up to the event.
All donations will stay in the community they're collected in. You can find a list of participating stores and the organizations they will be collecting for below;
Shoppers Drug Mart - Ingersoll
120 Thames Street North
Proceeds to benefit Salvation Army Food Bank
Shoppers Drug Mart - Tillsonburg
200 Broadway Street
Proceeds to benefit Helping Hands Food Bank
Shoppers Drug Mart - Norwich
19 Stover Street North
Proceeds to benefit Norwich Food Bank
Shoppers Drug Mart - both locations in Woodstock
959 Dundas Street East and 333 Dundas Street West
Proceeds to benefit Community Health Centre, Salvation Army, DASO, Ingamo Family Homes and the Women's Employment Resource Centre.
Kreiger says the fundraiser was a big success in 2020.
"Last year we raised over 1,150 boxes of products and we were able to support 28 organizations with that."
Tampon Tuesday is always held on the second Tuesday in March, so it took place before the province first went into lockdown last year. United Way usually hosts a big donation event at Kelsey's in Woodstock but can't do so this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
