A successful five year program is coming to an end as the Oxford County Drug Task Force is no more.
OXFORD COUNTY - After five years in the community, the Oxford County Drug Task Force is calling it a day.
Back in 2008, 72 dedicated community members and service providers came together to address the lack of services and coordinated efforts to deal with the growing concerns regarding substance abuse in Oxford County.
Task Force member Lisa Longworth says in the last two years of the task force, a lot of action happened and they were able to exceed most of the goals they had originally.
"We've kind of morphed from a task force to working more collaboratively under the Oxford Mental Health and Addictions Network and then we will continue to have our treatment group that offers this improved treatment effort and we will continue to have our prevention, education, harm reduction subcommittee that will continue on the work of the education and prevention in the community."
The Oxford County Drug Task Force is thrilled to announce their original goals have been realized.
"They started a formal task force in 2008 with a five year strategic plan so at the end of 2013 that strategic plan came to an end as did the funding for it and a lot of the goals and objectives that we sat out in that task force really had been met."
She says they wanted treatment and they have engaged in a voluntary integration with the Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre, Addiction Services of Thames Valley, Ingersoll Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic and Canadian Mental Health Oxford where they don't need to use a lot more money but do more with what they have.
Longworth says the most important thing about the task force was the time and commitment put in by everyone involved.
