The 2015 Capital and Operating Budget for East Zorra Tavistock will take centre stage tonight in council chambers - and it may mean a tax increase for residents.
EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK - The 2015 Capital and Operating Budget for East Zorra Tavistock will take centre stage tonight in council chambers.
Chief Administrative Office Jeff Carswell says while they were able to lower the budget from the original 11 percent increase, residents are still looking at a 7.59 percent increase over last year.
"The biggest reason is the decrease in our OMPF funding, that's the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund which is basically our unconditional grant for municipalities so it's down $231,000 which is really 5.5 percent of that 7.59 percent increase."
Carswell says they were able to find some savings with a combination of fine tuning and changing around the use of some reserve funds.
Carswell says it's unclear at this point what the impact will be on the average tax payer.
Carswell says it's also going to be hard because of the Property Assessment Phase-In but he thinks the average increase will be 3-4 percent over 2014.
