Teachers from Thames Valley District School Board hope to learn new ways to integrate creative thinking in the classrooms this weekend.
Local teachers from the Thames Valley District School Board are invited to the inaugural Science and Technology, Environmental Education, Arts and Mathematics - or STEAM - conference this weekend.
The key idea behind the event is to get teachers thinking about collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.
One of the organizers Mishaal Surti says the conference allows teachers, administrators and educators to find innovative ways to integrate STEAM in the classroom.
Surti wants teachers to inspire critical thinking and problem solving from their students through authentic tasks and real life problems.
Some of the sessions include how the inquiry process teaches students to take ownership of their learning, a hands-on workshop that will integrate art and science resulting in a collage of endangered animals, how to acquire math language in an arts environment, setting up a Google classroom, and combining science, technology and art in the junior classroom and other topics.
Over 300 staff members from the Thames Valley District School Board have registered for the course this Saturday at the Saunders Secondary School.
