Theatre Woodstock's upcoming production is all about a high stakes curling game with a soul on the line.
WOODSTOCK - Theatre Woodstock will be bringing the Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon to life on stage.
The story written by Canadian author W.O Mitchell focuses on Wullie MacCrimmon who has a dream of winning the Macdonald Brier. Publicity Chair Bonnie Hartley says MacCrimmon, played by Tony Harding, is willing to do anything to achieve his goal - including selling his soul to the Devil.
"He has to actually play a curling match against the Devil and so the Devil shows up and on his team he has MacBeth, Judas Iscariot, and Lizzie Borden."
The Devil will be brought to life by David Butcher. Hartley admits this role is a bit of a 180 for Butcher compared to their last production.
"In our most recent production It's a Wonderful Life the Radio Play, Dave actually played the voice of God so he is actually going from one extreme to the other."
Theatre Woodstock has borrowed some props from the Guelph Community Theatre in order to make the curling on stage look realistic. The Guelph Community Theatre did a production of the Black Bonspiel several years ago.
The show will grace the Market Centre Theatre Stage six times. Opening night is Friday, February 10th at 8 p.m. and the show will close on Saturday, February 18th also at 8 p.m.
