County Council is encouraging residents to go online, check out the annual report, and then grade the county on their progress.
OXFORD COUNTY - Students aren't the only ones getting report cards this year.
To keep residents informed on how and where their money is being spent Oxford County Council have posted the 2014 Annual Report online. The report contains information on county spending and revenue streams. Armed with this knowledge, people are encouraged to let the councillors know how they are doing to meet the county's goals. CAO of Oxford County, Peter Crockett, encourages residents to read the report. "It's all through OxfordCounty.ca and really what it does is provide an overview of what has gone on, where money is being spent, what we've achieved, and the detailed financial statements on our organization."
In previous years this information had been distributed in a printed report. Crockett hopes this new format will reach more people than ever before."It's all about making sure that the information is out there. For a number of years we've printed annual reports, they've been distributed but not necessarily received from a wide perspective. Technology allows us to get it out for more people to make it more accessible. It is all about accessibility of information, and a better understanding - a growing understanding - of what it is we are trying to do, and what it is we are achieving."
Crockett hopes many people take advantage of the report card feature. "The report cards are a new feature this year and it is really trying to link our activities relative to advancing our strategic plans. There is a number of achievements that are tied back to the specific direction to our strategic plan and what we have done to advance our programming in each of those areas."
The report includes the 2014 revenue ($172 455 892 total), and breaks down where that money comes from. The largest contributor is listed as property taxes holding a 32% share. It also lists Human Services as the largest portion of expenditure distribution at 19%.
