Every donation you make to Operation Sharings Food for friends at Foodland and Sobeys will be matched by Sobey's Corporate.
WOODSTOCK/INGERSOLL - The Operation Sharing Food for Friends Quarter Matching program has started in Woodstock in Ingersoll.
Owner of the Woodstock Foodland Chris Chapman says Sobey's Corporate will match donations at his store, the Foodland in Ingersoll and the Sobey's in Woodstock.
"So if a customer donates a quarter, we will add a quarter and make it 50 cents and if someone wants to challenge us by donating 5 bucks, well we will step up and match that 5 bucks as well and it is all going to a terrific program, that is very unique in Canada."
Chapman says the are happy to support Food for Friends from Operation Sharing every year.
"Operation Sharing is a very unique and innovative group and they started this Food for Friends program, where they provide food bank cards for people in our community who need a little extra help. This allows those people to select their own food, that they want, that they need and fits their dietary requirements. This program is funded completely by the citizens of Woodstock."
Every quarter that you donate at the till goes right into the Food for Friends Program.
Chapman says they have been doing the quarter matching program for several years now and they usually raise a lot of money for the cause.
"Last year the three stores raised over $10,000, we do have limit to capping, the matching program and that is $5,000 and we were able to provide Operation Sharing with a cheque for over $15,000. Generally in years gone by, we have been in that $9,000 to $10,000 range, but sometimes, someone will come forward with a significant donation and look for us to match it and they really put us over the top last year."
Quarter matching has already started and will last until Thanksgiving.
