The Future is Bright in Oxford County

Some of the best and brightest high school students in Oxford County were presented with a 2021 Rotary Medalist Award.

OXFORD COUNTY - The Rotary Clubs of Oxford recently presented the 2021 Rotary Medalist Awards to 12 exceptional high school students.

This years winners are:

- Breanna Egan and Mario Pardo from Woodstock Collegiate Institute,
- Hannah Buckrell and Samuel Jankovic from College Ave Secondary School,
- Dominik Wojtas and Zoe Nicholson from St. Mary's Catholic High School,
- Marissa Freeman and Josh Underwood from Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute,
- Rachel Mann and Kaleb Fulkerson from Glendale High School,
- Marcus Grau and Lily Farr from Huron Park Second School,

Rotary Club members have already visited each on the students home to present them a medal in person. Then on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm they will a special virtual ceremony via zoom. This will include prepared speeches by rising stars in our community. Each student will also have a short video on why their fellow school recipient deserves this Rotary medal based on the following criteria:

- Excellent moral character
- Participated in one or more school activity
- Made worthy contributions to the life of the school and community
- Show commitment to academics
- Personify our Rotary motto "Service Above Self"

The winners were each given a Rotary Medalist lawn sign, a certificate of the Medalist Award, Rotary Medal, a bursary award for $500 and $100 preloaded Visa card.

Rotary Medalist Committee Member Jackie Curry explains why they hand out these awards every year.

"This program provides the Rotary Cluster of Oxford County with the opportunity to reward these special young people in our community. Service above self” is our motto as Rotarians and they graduates are living examples of the good people can do!"
