INGERSOLL - After 19 long months, the show is about to go on at the Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts.
The Festival of One Act Plays is hitting the ITOPA stage this November 18th. Patrons will get to watch four short, one act comedies. The plays are Anger Management, directed by Bonnie Hartley, The First Date, directed by Kim DiLello, Accused of Comedy, directed by Sally Johnston, and We Loathe Our Customers, directed by Jim Konopetski. All are 25-30 minutes in length, and provide a different brand of comedy for audiences to relish.
Producer Ted McLauchlin brought the idea to Ingersoll after working in Woodstock.
"Twelve years ago, I became the photographer for Theatre Woodstock. I served as Vice President for a year, then as President for Theatre Woodstock for four more. Doing the festival has been at the back of my mind for two and a half years. The idea came because his high school hosted a festival of one act plays every year, and it was a lot of fun and very popular. “Theatre Woodstock didn't have room in their season, and ITOPA was happy to sponsor the festival. It was supposed to run in September of 2020, but the pandemic forced us to hold off."
He adds that challengers are a part of every production.
"Getting four distinct groups to come together as one cohesive team has been challenging. Each play has individual needs with staging, props, lighting and sound. Determining how we stage manage all 4 plays during each performance has been demanding, but we've got it figured out."
The Festival of One Act Plays is playing at The Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts, 88 Thames St. S. Ingersoll, November 18, 19, 20, and 21* (*Sunday Matinee). Curtain time is 7:30pm, Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.
