With the tax deadline looming at the end of April, it's time to start getting your tax receipts in order.
Tax Season has officially started in Oxford County.
The tax deadline is April 30th and although it's tempting to wait a few weeks before really digging into your receipts, Senior Vice President with BDO Mike Braga encourages everyone to start now.
"What we are seeing in the industry is people wait until the Easter break to get their tax returns done and they are scrambling at the end to get all of their receipts, so they are not really maximizing all of the tax credits that they can."
Braga also wants to remind seniors that you can claim all of your medications and medical related expenses.
"Oftentimes what we are seeing is they are not claiming their full credits that they can and that is because throughout the year we will misplace our prescription receipts or our medical receipts and the best place to recreate those is to actually go to the pharmacist."
He also recommends people who are self employed set up a separate bank account for your business to help make your life easier come tax time.
