Local youth groups will be out in Tillsonburg and Otterville to rake leaves and raise money.
TILLSONBURG/OTTERVILLE - A pair of communities in Oxford County could benefit from local kids.
The Tillyburg Leaf Rakers kids sports teams, or other youth groups that go around Tillsonburg and Otterville and tidy up lawns. Organizer, Chris Jackson says his kids play hockey and that sparked the idea.
"I tried raising funds by getting our kids going around town raking leaves, we made several hundred dollars. Since then, it has grown exponentially every single year."
The organization will begin raking leaves tomorrow, and continue every Saturday until November 16th. Jackson mentions getting your group involved is a great way to help raise money and offset costs that could be associated with events.
"So, this year we still have some capacity. We have tripled our number of teams raking leaves this year. We come with our own yard waste bags, and we take the yard waste bags to the transfer station."
He adds each bag will cost $3.50, and anyone using the service will have the option to put a cap on the number of bags that are collected. Jackson says the people don't have to be home at the time of the raking, as they will leave a payment slip with all the information needed to complete the transaction. He mentions groups have been able to raise between $2500 and $3000 from raking leaves over the four weeks.
