The reminder is out to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as daylight savings time starts.
WOODSTOCK - Spring is almost here and the time changes come with it.
Early Sunday morning the clocks will spring ahead and the Woodstock Fire Department is reminding you to check your fire and carbon monoxide detectors. Public Information Coordinator, Lisa Woods says this message is one that never gets old.
"Absolutely, we can't say this enough. We still find people that don't have their carbon monoxide in the right location, that's one of the things we want to get out there for sure, and with the smoke alarms, we want to make sure you maintain them."
She adds the alarms can get dusty and you can give them a light vacuum. Woods mentions there should be a fresh battery and you should check the manufacturer date as the alarms are only good for 10 years. Woods goes on to say having an alarm on every floor is not actually the case.
"It's not the law. If you have hard-wired ones in the new homes, you will have them on every level and they will probably be duel."
Woods says if you have battery-operated detectors, they only need to be outside the sleeping areas in the home. If you have extra alarms, it is a good idea to put them up just to have extra protection.
If you want to hear more from Woods, you can listen to the entire morning show interview that was done with Dan and Marcie today.
