Toyota donated around $3500 to cover the cost of the meal.
WOODSTOCK - Students and staff from Central Public School enjoyed their annual Christmas lunch from a special sponsor.
Earlier this afternoon, Toyota Motor Manufacturing covered the entire cost of the meal for over 520 students and 60 staff. The lunch included turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, rice and more.
A human resources rep from Toyota, Mark Geene attended the event and said it was awesome to do something like this for the first time.
"I sit on a donations committee at the plant and we received a letter from a teacher that works at [Central]. They were requesting that we contribute to their Christmas lunch that they have every year because this year has been a little tougher than most, so we decided we would pay for the entire thing."
According to Principal of Central Public School Trish Tomico, Alex McDonald was the staff member who reached out to Toyota, which led to the donation that totalled approximately $3500.
Tomico said that the Christmas lunch is something the school has done for years to bring the school together as a family.
"This year, we knew that it's been really hard for a lot of families in our community financially. We wanted to see if there was any community supports available to help us make this meal an even greater experience for everyone."
She also added that The Woodstock Fire Department brought Sparky to the event to help out as servers and interact with the students.
"I think the students absolutely loved today. The fact that they were coming back for seconds and thirds, wanted their pictures with Sparky, wanted to be able to talk with the firefighters and just to be able to enjoy a family moment together as a school family."
