Pink big rigs taking over Woodstock Saturday
WOODSTOCK -- The big rigs are turning pink in the Friendly City this weekend.
The 4th Annual Trucking for a Cure hits Woodstock Saturday at the TA Travel Centre.
According to organizer Joanne Mackenzie, local and visiting drivers raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, decorate their rigs in pink and travel through the city showing off their creative work - all while raising awareness for an important cause. "This year we're really excited because we're going to actually bobtail through, up into the town of Woodstock and we're pretty excited about that. It's our first time being able to do this. So the parade of pink truck is going to come through town of Woodstock and work our way back to Highway 2 towards the 401, which will then bring us back west to the TA."
Once the trucks arrive back the TA Travel Centre, Mackenzie says awards and acknowledgments are announced. "Drivers will find out who's the winner of the best pinked-out truck for the male and female, and we have a highest pledges which the drivers work on every year. That's a big thing with them, to be in the Top 10 lead of the convoy. It's pretty fun, the little friendly competition between the drivers, it's a pretty inspirational day for everybody."
The afternoon includes a silent auction, entertainment, BBQ, kids zone and prizes.
Last year 88 trucks of all sizes participated in the event raising a total of $73,000. Drivers pay $75 to enter and registrations begin at 7:00 am Saturday morning at TA Travel Centre. The fee includes a complimentary breakfast for the participants and their families.
