The Prime Minister's office says chief of staff Katie Telford will testify about foreign interference
The Prime Minister's chief of staff will testify before a Commons committee investigating foreign interference in the last two elections.
The news was confirmed by Justin Trudeau's office.
"While there are serious constraints on what can be said in public about sensitive intelligence matters, in an effort to make Parliament work, Ms. Telford has agreed to appear at the Procedure and House Affairs Committee as part of their study," Trudeau’s office said in a statement.
This comes after the Liberal government spent weeks trying to prevent Katie Telford from testifying.
The Conservative party had planned to vote today on a motion to demand Telford appear.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said his party would vote in favour of the move, unless the Liberals stopped filibustering the committee.
The federal government has announced former governor general David Johnston has been tasked with overseeing investigations into foreign interference.
He will have until the end of October to complete the investigation and make recommendations about how the government should move forward.
