WOODSTOCK - United Way Oxford is hosting its annual Community Kickoff this week.
This year's event will be at the Upper Thames Brewing Company on Bysham Park on Thursday.
Resource Development Coordinator Mike Crabbe says this year's event will give people a hands-on experience.
"United Way Oxford is hosting its annual Community Kickoff, which is our event where we get together with a lot of residents from our community and celebrate the beginning of our new campaign for the year."
People can hear from a guest speaker share their journey from poverty to possibility, as well as make Welcome Home kits this Thursday September 19th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
In addition to making this year's event a hands-on experience, Crabbe says they're inviting guests to learn about what United Way does to help support the community.
"This year they're going to be able to participate in building a Welcome Home kit which is going to be gifted to organizations like Indwell Harvey Woods and will kind of set people up that are going into new housing with the things that they need to start off their life on a fresh, new note."
He adds towels, cleaning supplies and pillows are among the items in the kits.
There will also be snacks provided, along with a cash bar. Donations for the kits are not expected, but they are encouraged.
Crabbe adds if you are interested in sponsoring a kit, you can either sponsor one for $50.00 or co-sponsor for $25.00, which will go towards building future kits.
To register, you can head here and if you are interested in being a part of the event you can call their office at 519-539-3851 or visit their Facebook page for more information.
