The University of Ottawa could still be coming to Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - It remains a waiting game to see if the University of Ottawa will be coming to Woodstock.
Woodstock, Oxford County and the University have applied for $19 million from the Province to have a campus in Woodstock.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says it was actually good news the request was not mentioned in the Provincial budget because this means the request has not been rejected. He adds having a University Campus in Woodstock would be a huge benefit to the City as it could attract more people to the area.
Mayor Birtch says they have the infrastructure available downtown to make it happen and it would provide a nice economic boost for local businesses. He also sees some areas of town that could easily be converted into student housing.
If the grant funding is approved the University of Ottawa would likely offer first and second year programs in Woodstock for some of their programs. Currently Woodstock is competing with 13 other applications but Mayor Birtch believes Woodstock stands a good chance because they are campaigning for a bilingual campus.
