Thamesford family selected for Ingersoll Habitat for Humanity home in Ingersoll.
INGERSOLL - A deserving family in Thamesford is looking forward to moving to Ingersoll with help from Habitat for Humanity.
Craig and Krista Sweeny, along with their three children Justice, Kaidince, and Gryphon will be moving into the Margaret Street home once it is completed. Regional Development Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity Heartland, Allison Kampman said the family didn't initially come to them looking for a house.
"They came to us wanting to volunteer. So the fact that they approached us on their own initiative and actually worked on a home, I believe here in London, prior to putting an application in for their own home in Ingersoll, like I said, that spoke volumes."
The project is coming together very quickly, the land has been bought, the family selected, and Humanity is very close to finding a Site Supervisor. Kampman says any support from the community is greatly appreciated.
"We are also looking for teams of 10 people to come together and raise $2,500 a team, or $250 a person. I should mention as well that every penny of that money will go towards that build in Ingersoll. Habitat for Humanity has a very unique model in which our ReStores cover our operating costs."
All kinds of volunteers are still needed - everything from specialty services, to people with no experience who just want to help out. They are also seeking businesses or other organizations to help provide lunch to the crews of 10 - 15 people per day.
Habitat for Humanity is also well on their way to achieving their $60,000 target for donated funds or gift-in-kind.
If all goes as planned, they hope to start construction in the fall.
