All of the proceeds will be going to Lupus Ontario for Lupus research.
WOODSTOCK - Get those walking shoes ready, as the Walk for Lupus returns to Woodstock.
This year is the 15th annual walk in the Friendly City and coordinator Jan Ropp explains the events of the day.
"It is on Saturday, June 7th at Southside Park and registration starts at 10:00 a.m. and then at around 11:00 a.m. a little after we have some dignitaries coming and then we start the walk."
They will have cupcakes, coffee and water on site for the participants in addition to raffles, door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
Ropp says all of the money raised will go to Lupus Ontario.
"They use it for research, new medications, and new treatments. They're always trying to find something new."
She adds the walk is a special event for her, as she lives with Lupus. She says that every day is different.
"It's mostly arthritis in my joints and things that caused me the most problems. It does affect my skin. It does affect them. Some of the symptoms are joint pains, hair loss, or a red rash around your nose. Extreme fatigue. I have that one, and ulcers in your nose and mouth, and it can cause neurological symptoms. I've been blessed that it hasn't affected my organs, but it is a hard disease for them to diagnose. For me, I would get sick, and I think I have the flu because my whole body ached everywhere. I wouldn't be able to get up or move. I couldn't move my arms and legs. And so, I just assumed it was the flu. But then as I was diagnosed then I realized, no, those were really bad flare ups."
If you are interested in registering for the walk you can visit the Lupus Ontario website.
