The battle over a proposed mega-landfill in Oxford County continues today. Walker Industries is set to host its second open house in Woodstock to provide residents with an update on their progress. Walker is proposing to open a landfill in the Beachville Quarry that would take in dozens of truckloads of trash every day. The open house runs from 2-8PM at the Quality Inn in Woodstock. Not to be outdone, Oxford People Against the Landfill have also rented a room at the Quality Inn today and will host its own information drop-in session. OPAL says it will be sharing some research today, and also providing residents with a checklist of concerns to fill out to deliver to Walker Industries. In a press release, OPAL Chair Steve McSwiggan says, ?The official government processes that Walker must follow stipulate that Walker must record every written comment or concern submitted by a resident. Our public input will direct Walker in the various testing it must do and considerations it must take into account. The Minister of the Environment, who makes the final decision on whether or not Walker gets its landfill, will be influenced by what we residents state now.? Heart FM's Victoria Mattan will be at the Open Houses, and will be reporting later this afternoon on Heart FM News.
