INGERSOLL - Walker will release its draft Environmental Assessment report for the proposed Southwestern Landfill on Monday.
The EA report is a compilation of all of the scientific research and community engagement done over the past 8 years. It was done to done by Walker to help the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks assess the merits of the proposal.
The report identifies mitigation measures that would be undertaken to eliminate or reduce any potential affects according to Walker.
In a press release Walker stats that they encourages members of the public and stakeholders to read the draft EA report and provide feedback. Walker is organizing several opportunities in the coming weeks for community engagement, including public open houses and an online open house. Details of community engagement opportunities will be available closer to the event dates.
The EA report will be available online on Monday morning after 11:00 a.m. You will be able to find it here.
The proposed landfill has been met with opposition from several community groups in Oxford County. The OPAL Alliance has been fighting the proposed landfill since it was first proposed, as has Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey. OPAL is actually hosting an event this weekend called Tell Walker to take a Leap on Leap Day.
