Local tire dealers will have to wait a little longer before full details on the province's new eco-fee structure gets rolling. Local MPP Ernie Hardeman says local tire dealers have claimed they are having trouble getting quotes on the agricultural tires they need to buy since the manufacturers aren't sure if they need to add the fees onto the tires before selling them. Those new fees range from $5.88 to more than $13 hundred per tire in the new program that went into effect April 1. Hardeman says his party has been staying on the issue everyday. "We've been getting petitions from all over the province from tire dealers, from farmers, from tire manufacturers objecting to this massive increase so we have been reading those into the legislature asking the government to hold the horses and stop the increased fee until we can do a study as to the impact it will have an how it will make us uncompetitive." Hardeman says the Liberals have said they are working on reducing the fees and having a look at the very least to put in a phase in program, though he says he doesn't think that's good enough. He says if locals bought tires recently they may not have seen an increase in the eco-fees as it would take at least a week or so from the time of implementation for the fees to trickle down to the consumer.
