OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford Water Conservation Program begins today.
Since the county relies entirely on groundwater for its supply, Oxford puts limits on outdoor water use for gardens and lawns. From now until September 30th, outdoor water use can only be used every other day.
To make days easy to track, the county has decided that watering days will coincide with house addresses. If the house number is an even-number, then watering day will be on even-numbered days. If the house number is an odd-number, then watering day will be on odd-numbered days.
Norwich residents in particular will be limited to one outdoor watering a week, due to routine maintenance on the water tower. Residents should base watering day off of the last digit of the house.
- Monday: Addresses ending in 0 or 1
- Tuesday: Addresses ending in 2 or 3
- Wednesday: Addresses ending in 4 or 5
- Thursday: Addresses ending in 6 or 7
- Friday: Addresses ending in 8 or 9
- There is no weekend watering
Residential watering hours will be from 6:00-9:00 a.m., and then again from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Commercial watering hours fall from 8:00-10:00 a.m., and then again in the late afternoon from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Residents are welcome to apply for an exemption permit for outdoor use past the designated hours. Exemptions could include filling swimming pools, automatic sprinkler systems or new sod, seeds, trees.
