Oxford Counties libraries are being well utilized - OCL claims the third highest library engagement in the province.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County has the third largest library engagement in the province.
According to the CBC, Ottawa has the second largest engagement while Hamilton tops the list.
The county currently has over 16,000 active library card holders who take advantage of the many services the 14 branches offer.
Although print circulations have been going down throughout the years, people are still stopping by the libraries to participate in programs. Electronic resources are also growing in popularity.
CEO Lisa Miettinen says Oxford County libraries have been great at adapting to new electronic resources throughout the years.
"We have four platforms for ebooks and electronic audio books so our customers have really good access to in demand titles. I believe we can satisfy demands more quickly perhaps than some other library systems."
Our local libraries monitor the amount of holds on each title and they order additional copies once the number of holds exceeds six.
There's also a growing number of home delivery clients, especially to those in Long Term Care Facilities. The Nursing Home Circulation went up 43 percent between 2015 and 2016.
Miettinen hopes the libraries' engagement numbers will continue to grow in the coming years.
"We're continuing to try to provide more copies of items that people really want to read, make sure that we're increasing the number of ebooks we have, making the library a destination for people to go to, offering more programs and more activities in-branch. Continuing to provide really good customer service in the branch so people feel welcome and they feel like they belong in the library."
