West Jet Cancels 20 Percent of Flights Scheduled For March

West Jet says due to pandemic uncertainty and public health restrictions, 20 percent of flights scheduled for March have been cancelled.

A word of warning if you have booked a West Jet flight for next month. 

The company has released a statement, indicating that 20 percent of all flights scheduled for the month of March have been cancelled. 

The business says the decision was made as a result of public health restrictions and pandemic uncertainty. 

Interim President and CEO Harry Taylor says the federal government should change air travel requirements, and is calling for a system of COVID-19 testing upon arrival only. 

"Canada remains the only country among the G7 nations to still require mandatory pre-departure and on-arrival PCR testing," Taylor notes. "Countries across the globe are recognizing the importance of travel and tourism on economic recovery and we are witnessing them take measures to safely re-open their borders and make sensible adjustments to overall travel guidance and testing requirements. It is disappointing that Canada remains stagnant in its approach and continues to make travel inaccessible and punitive for Canadians and inbound tourists."

Customers impacted by the change will be notified by email. 

In both January and February of this year, the airline also cancelled 20 percent of its flights.
