A touching tribute has been unveiled to remember the fallen firefighters that have served the City of Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - A new memorial has been erected in Woodstock.
The Fire Department unveiled the Line of Duty Death Memorial at Fire Station 1 honoring the brave firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the community. The memorial stands as a permanent tribute to those who gave their lives protecting others and preserving the safety of Woodstock residents. A ceremony was held and had family members of the inductees, Jack Wilford, Len Raper and John Sibley as well as current & retired department personnel, along with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal officials to pay their respects and celebrate the legacy of those who served with courage and honour.
Fire Chief, Jeff Slager spoke about his thoughts and reflection about the memorial.
“This Memorial reminds us that the heart of our department is built on service, sacrifice, and family. Each name added represents a member who gave all in their service to the community.” He adds, “Each of these members are also represented on memorials in Colorado Springs, Ottawa, and Toronto, with other line of duty death firefighters. However, having something here at their home station makes it easier for family to visit and keeps their sacrifice at the forefront of our firefighters memory.”
The Woodstock Fire Department remains committed to honoring its fallen members and supporting their families through ongoing remembrance initiatives and community engagement.
