There's a new twist to the Oxford County Agriculture Awards of Excellence for 2013. The list of winners will no longer be a surprise. In fact, they've already been announced: Large Agri-Business ? 31st Line Strategic Communications Small Agri-Business ? Oxford Bovine Veterinary Services Niche ? Walters Family Dinner Theatre Innovation ? McIntosh Embryo Transfer Conservation ? Willadel Acres/Darin & Andra Willits Family Farm ? Walnutlawn Farms/Burnell & Darlene Zehr Youth in Agriculture ? Jaclyn Pynenburg In previous years there was always a winner, and a runner up. But after much deliberation, Oxford County Federation of Agriculture spokesperson, Amy Matheson, says is doing away with the old format. "We did significant research on all of the nominees and provided an independent panel of judges with that information. They took a couple of weeks to pour over that information, and based on a scoring sheet they determined the winners of each category. So that way we were able to notify all them in advance that they will be recognized and celebrated on April 3rd." But there will be a surprise at the awards: the inaugural induction into the newly created Oxford County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Matheson says this first inductee will not be alone in the Hall. "In previous years, there has been a Community Service Award winner, so the new Hall of Fame will see all of the previous Community Service Award winners retroactively inducted into the Oxford County Agricultural Hall of Fame." The Hall of Fame will be displayed in the spacious lobby of the Oxford County Administration Building. Tickets are now on sale for the event. It's being held on April 3rd at the Oxford Auditorium, including a dinner, entertainment and night of celebration of local agriculture. Tickets available by contacting Matheson at the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture: 519-852-8836. www.oxfordag.ca
