The winter weather is up and down, and that has the Woodstock Fire Department sending out reminders.
WOODSTOCK - Warmer temperatures and rain are being forecast for Woodstock.
With that, waterways could start to melt and become dangerous. Public Information Coordinator with the Woodstock Fire Department, Lisa Woods, has this message.
"We prefer no ice is safe ice, but we do know kids are curious and they wander. So, talk to them about the safety of staying away from there because the waters may rise as well with all the rain we're about to get. So, talk to them before something happens."
As the winter weather continues, the issue of snow around fire hydrants becomes top of mind for firefighters. Woods speaks to what they would like to see from the community.
"We have 1,400 fire hydrants in the city of Woodstock that are city-owned. And certainly, the Board of Works is out doing their part, and the fire department is doing their part. But if you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, it would be great if you could clear a three-foot clearance for us."
Woods says if a crew is responding to a call and can't find the hydrant, it takes valuable time away from trying to fight the fire.
