OXFORD COUNTY - The Women and Wellness Oxford County committee raised nearly $4,700 for the Canadian Mental Health Association of Oxford.
All of the funds were raised at the sold out fundraiser back in May with the theme centered around The Art of Wellness. CMHA Oxford Board of Directors Chair Shirley McCall-Hanlon tells Heart FM the Women and Wellness event actually started 10 years ago by the CHMA in the Maritimes. "Slowly and gradually various branches across Canada are picking up on this event and eventually we hop this will become one large event across Canada." The event in May was the first Women and Wellness fundraiser for the Oxford branch.
McCall-Hanlon says the support of the community and the attendees at this inaugural Women and Wellness event have been overwhelming. Money raised at the Oxford event will stay with the local branch and assist the CMHA Oxford to increase access to mental health resources in communities across Oxford. Part of the money will be used to help fund the new walk in clinics which will be offered by the CMHA Oxford. The plan is to have resources available to anyone who may need it after hours one day a week at all of the CMHA offices in Oxford County. Mike McMahon, CMHA Oxford Executive Director, adds "The generous support demonstrated at Women and Wellness will be part of our effort to stabilize community based funding for Walk in Counselling services across Oxford County."
The Women & Wellness Oxford County committee would like to thank all the art donors, silent auction, gift bags and in-kind donors, as well as Roto-Static Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, Floral Buds & Design, Goodlife Fitness, Shoppers Drug Mart, Red Thistle, RBC Financial, Rheo Thompson Candies, Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese, Bright Cheese, Mary's Fine Jewellery, Elm Hurst Inn & Country Spa for their generous donations.
