Woodstock City Council has approved the consumer fireworks bylaw and it will take effect on January 1st, 2024.
WOODSTOCK - It's official, Woodstonians will not be able to purchase or discharge their own fireworks.
Woodstock City Council gave final approval to the new consumer fireworks bylaw yesterday.
It takes effect in the New Year so this year's Diwali celebrations will not be affected. Those looking to celebrate will still be able to light their own fireworks between dusk and 11:00 p.m.
Council voted in favour of creating the bylaw back in July. A report from staff said the bylaw department received 50 fireworks-related complaints in 2022 and 31 complaints in the first half of 2023.
This bylaw will also not affect public fireworks displays hosted by the City.
