A thrilling finish at the Woodstock Bowl led to a 1-1 tie under the lights at College Ave.
WOODSTOCK - Defence ruled the night at the Woodstock Bowl.
College Ave and Huron Park played to a 1-1 tie last night in front of a packed house at the Terry Fox Field. Cold weather didn't stop people from coming and supporting both teams as the stands were full of supporters from both teams.
Head Coach for the Knights Colin Braney tells Heart FM they were trailing most of the game before finally tying it up in the last minute.
"That was a barn burner, I'll tell you that, we were trying to drive late in the 4th quarter, stalled and made a tough decision to punt. Our defence went in and got a 3 and out real quick. We got the ball back with a 1:30 seconds to go with no timeouts and our offence had to go no huddle without ever practicing it. We were able to run the ball well from the 40 to the 3 yard line and with 7 seconds on the clock we thought we had the game in hand with a 15 yard field goal but we came up a little wide left but it did sneak out of bounds that let us get the tie."
Braney says the turnout from the crowd was amazing and really helped the players battle through the cold.
"The community around here is just amazing, we had 104.7 help us out and we had our kids going around handing out flyers and really made people aware. It was an amazing turnout last night and that really elevated the atmosphere and makes it special for all of the boys that our playing. It's not often you can have national anthems sung and introductions done by professional DJ's but it's only great if people are there to see it. We had a great number of people from Huron Park and College Ave that got out and made it a spectacular event, I want to thank everyone who came out, you made it great and we are only going to get bigger and better from here."
College Ave finishes the season with a winning record and will be playing at home in the playoffs. They take on the IDCI Blue Bombers next Thursday at 2 p.m.
