Cory Bigham will compete at the Special Olympics in Medicine Hat, Alberta this summer.
WOODSTOCK - A local bowler is getting ready to represent Woodstock on the national stage.
Cory Bigham is a 10 pin bowler and he trains at C&D Lanes every Wednesday. He started the sport in 2008 and he will compete in one of the biggest tournaments of his career this summer.
"It's the Special Olympics National Summer Games and it takes place in Medicine Hat, Alberta. It stars on August 10th and it goes until Sunday, August 16th.
He was very excited when he found out he was going to the Special Olympics.
"I actually got the qualification notice when I went to the provincials in Kitchener, Ontario in 2024 and I won some medals."
During an interview with Heart FM, he said one of his favourite parts of competing is building friendships with the other athletes he meets along the way.
Bigham will be at the Norwich Ave Tim Hortons in Woodstock from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. today promoting the Special Olympics doughnut. Some other local athletes will also be at the Vansittart Ave location in Woodstock from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..
Tim Hortons will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the Special Olympics doughnut sales to sports programs for athletes experiencing an intellectual disability.
