Eleven neighbours on Normandy Drive in Woodstock have teamed up for a beautiful light display, all while collecting donations for the Salvation Army and DASO.
WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock neighbourhood is looking to spread some holiday cheer with a one-of-a-kind display.
Eleven neighbours on Normandy Drive between Athabaskan Ave and Alberni Road have set up Christmas arches along the street and they are lit up every evening from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. They also play Christmas music on the weekends.
Betty Ryder came up with the idea last year.
"We visited our daughter in Ajax and they had made these Christmas arches for their whole crescent. I kind of got inspired by it and decided that might be something we can do on our part of the street."
She says they're collecting donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank and Domestic Abuse Services Oxford.
"We've got three bins set up on the street along the arches. We've got two bins for the Salvation Army Food Bank and one bin for collecting mitts, hats and socks for the women's emergency centre (DASO)."
The arches first went up in mid-November and Ryder says they will probably stay up until mid-January. She recommends parking your vehicle and walking through the arches in order to have the full experience.
