A city by-law in Woodstock does allow fireworks display to celebrate our nations birthday and you only need a permit if your going to have more than 20 people take in your display. However the Woodstock Fire Department says your best bet and the safest bet is to check out the amazing display at Southside Park. Public Information coordinator Lisa Woods offers up a few safety tips if you are going to have your own show. "We want people to pick one individual who is going to be responsible and stay responsible for the entire time your using fireworks, we absolutely want a bucket of water or sand nearby while their using the fireworks and only set one firework off at a time and only from the ground, never set one off in your hand."
Woods says you also need to read and follow the label instructions on the fireworks. If you get a dud do not try to re light it and wait 30 minutes and soak it in water before disposing of it. Also it has to be a nice night and if it is windy outside you should not do the fireworks as they could end up in a neighbours yard and start a fire.
