These beds increase patient comfort by redistributing pressure and aid in the treatment and prevention of bedsores and can make a world of difference to a patient's recovery.
WOODSTOCK - Most people aren't crazy about the idea of staying in the hospital. Patients are already dealing with their health issue, on top of the organized chaos that is the norm at the hospital, like beeping monitors, and staff shuffling around.
Getting a good sleep and having proper rest is a huge priority for the Woodstock Hospital. That is why they have been growing their fleet of air beds. These beds increase patient comfort by redistributing pressure and aid in the treatment and prevention of bedsores.
In the Woodstock Hospital's Summer news letter, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patient, Joanne Waite says she immediately noticed the the difference in overall comfort compared to regular hospital beds.
“As a patient, it helps to feel good in the morning. You actually want to do something, instead of dealing with aches and pains.”
How important is an air bed for someone like Joanne? Very important, as patients that spend a lot of time immobile in bed, like Joanne does, air beds can make a world of difference. These beds have a series of air-tight bladders that run laterally across the mattress to provide patient immersion and envelopment. This allows redistribution of pressure which assists in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and aids in moisture management of the patient’s skin.
For Joanne, the beds have helped provide her with a sense of calm after her approximately 8 stays at the hospital in the past two years.
“I’ve just had the best of care in every single way. The staff are amazing. They treat you with dignity and you can tell they genuinely care about their patients, It’s the kind of care you want to receive if you have to be in a hospital.”
The Woodstock Hospital is currently accepting donations to fund the purchase of more air beds for the Critical Care Unit.
