WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Hospital has been presented with the 2021 Energy and Environmental Stewardship Award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
CEO Perry Lang says the Woodstock Hospital has always made environmental stewardship a priority.
“Nearly 10 years ago when our new hospital was built, we were recognized as one of the first hospitals in Canada to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. We have continued on our environmental stewardship journey since then, and this award validates the work that Woodstock Hospital has completed over the years.”
The award is given to organizations who have demonstrated environmental responsibility through the reduction of energy usage, preserving natural resources and effective waste diversion solutions.
The Hospital established an Environmental Advisory Committee in 2013. Director of Capital Projects and Chair of the EAC Chris Marion says some of the most successful environmental initiatives have come from front line staff.
“As an example, the hospital increased our waste diversion from landfill by 15% due staff input. That success has only encouraged us to continue forward with a goal of 50% waste diversion by 2025 and we are well on track to exceed that target.”
Over the years, the Hospital has installed 21 electric car-charging stations, a 135 kW solar power project on the Medical Professional Building and started an Organics Waste Program.
Lang says they are proud to receive this award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
“We are proud of our successes and honoured to be this year’s recipient. I would like to thank the Canadian College of Health Leaders for recognizing our commitment to environmental responsibility, and Honeywell for sponsoring this award.”
