The City will demolish two buildings next to Museum Square as they look to expand the downtown spot.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock has some big plans to expand Museum Square.
Development Officer Brad Hammond says two City owned buildings next to the square will be demolished in the coming months.
"The one building was formerly the Dairy Capital Cheese Shop and then next to that was Romance Jewellers. The City has owned both of those buildings for two years. They are vacant now, all of our tenants have moved out and our plans will be to demolish the buildings in the coming months to make for a larger Museum Square."
Development Officer Brad Hammond says they're looking for community feedback on what to do with the space.
"We want to hear from the public about what should Museum Square look like, going forward for the next 50 years or 100 years or whatever. Right now it is a passive space, that people can go and sit. It doesn't work particularly well for public events, so we are really looking to reinvent that and make it a much more active space."
They will be hosting a virtual Public Information Centre (PIC) on January 12th from 6–9 PM. It will be seeking input from the public in relation to the City’s Streetscape Master Plan. The City is asking citizens to bring their thoughts and ideas on the future appearance of the downtown to this workshop. Special focus will be given to the City Hall block and Museum Square as the City looks to create a more active, accessible, and inclusive space for public activities and events.
