A man from Woodstock has lost over $34,000 after investing in a fraudulent company.
WOODSTOCK - A Woodstock man is out over $34,000 after falling victim to a fraud.
Police say the man had been investing in a company since 2015 when he made a deposit of $2300. A short time after the initial investment he added another payment of $12,220.50. He did collect revenue payments from the company and decided to invest another $20,000. During the course of this period the man was communicating with the company over the phone and they had what appeared to be a legitimate web site.
Soon after the last transaction was sent, the number was not in service and his emails were not being responded to. When he looked into it he found out the company TAP N'PAY was not real and there were other victims.
The Criminal Investigations Branch is investigating this fraud.
