Golfers will tee off for the last time at the iconic course on Sunday. In it's place is a massive new subdivision and apartment buildings.
WOODSTOCK - It is the end of an era this weekend at the Woodstock Meadows.
The popular golf course is closing after being sold to developers. The proposed subdivision map has been made public and hundreds of homes will be built on the site. It calls for 632 residential lots, 311 townhouse units, a high density residential block with 150 apartment dwelling units, 1 pumping station block, 1 storm water management block, 1 park block, 1 open space block, municipal roads and a servicing block.
You can view the proposal online here.
Owner Henry Vink says if you want to get a tee time this weekend, you are out of luck.
"Our tee sheet is full for Friday, Saturday and Sunday already, so unfortunately if you want to get out and golf, you won't be able to, unless you already have a tee time. We do have the range that is still open and the pitch and putt and the public is more than welcome to come out to that."
Vink says he hasn't had time to really let this reality sink in, that the course will be closed for good after this weekend.
"I really haven't given it too much thought, just concentrating on the business for the year and trying to look after everything, come next week, then maybe we will give it a little more thought."
The last day for the Meadows is on Sunday. Local golfers are sad to see the course go. It was a beautiful course, just outside the City and a terrific place for kids to learn the game with the golf school and pitch and putt.
Member Wes Mazur will be one of the golfers teeing off on Sunday. He says he gets to take a little piece of the course home with him.
"They let me take home the sign from Hole #5 for a donation to Sakura House. It’s not only a piece of Woodstock Meadows history, it’s also the first and only hole-in-one I ever made!"
Mazur says he is really going to miss the Meadows.
"Such amazing people at the a meadows! When I moved to Woodstock in 2013 my neighbours recruited me to start golfing at Woodstock Meadows. The Meadows staff and family have always made me feel right at home and pretty much a part of their extended family."
