WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Museum National Historic Site will start welcoming back the community on Tuesday.
They have been closed to the public since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic four months ago. The City of Woodstock has announced the Museum can open on July 7, with modified hours and programming to ensure the health and safety of the community.
The Museum will be open to the public Tuesday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a special hour for seniors and visitors at risk from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The number of people allowed in the building will be limited to 30 to maintain physical distancing and visitors will be required to complete a health screening questionnaire upon entry.
Additional health and safety measure have been implemented to protect staff and patrons including a glass barrier at the front reception desk, signage and stickers to promote physical distancing, sanitizing stations and enhanced levels
of cleaning.
Curator Karen Houston says they are excited to open their doors once again.
“We know our community is looking forward to visiting the Museum once again, and staff are working diligently to
ensure our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience when we open our doors."
Museum programs, including summer camps, have been postponed or cancelled until further notice. There will be also be a moratorium on tours and special events.
Houston says in the meantime, staff are continuing to develop virtual resources to be enjoyed from home.
“The Museum has created a variety of engaging online programming including family-friendly activities, virtual
exhibits and educational resources. These virtual resources will continue to be a priority as we move forward with the re-opening plan and beyond.”
Houston, who is also the Manager of Culture for the City of Woodstock, adds that the Woodstock Art Gallery is working towards reopening later in the month once appropriate health and safety measures are in place.
Additionally, Market Centre Theatre will remain closed to events, performances and other facility rentals until further notice.
