The Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Woodstock is getting a big boost from Western General, a division of The Economical Insurance Group.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock's Relay for Life has received their largest single sponsorship in their 16 year history.
Manager of Operations at Western General, a division of The Economical Insurance Group Ken Worsley says the company will be giving $10,000 to the Relay this year.
"The impact for Relay is how much money is actually coming from one family business in Woodstock," said Sponsorship Crew Captain for the Woodstock Relay for Life Bob Axon. "It's quite a milestone."
Employee Dawn Alexander made the initial ask to the company for sponsorship back in 2013.
"I knew they were doing it for other areas so I just thought that they could come in to Woodstock and help us out too. It's a sponsorship form that we set up and they ask a bunch of questions and they were okay with it. They were very happy with it. Actually we only asked for $7000 this year but they felt that they should give a bit more to the community so that was great."
This is Western General's third year as a sponsor increasing their donation each year from $2,000 to $7,000 and now $10,000.
This year's Woodstock Relay is scheduled for June 13 from 6pm - midnight at College Avenue Secondary School. Register online at www.relayforlife.ca or pick up registration forms at the CCS office on Springbank Ave.
