The Snow Maintenance Sharing Agreement was approved by Woodstock City council. The Township of Norwich will do winter maintenance on the City's portion of Patullo Avenue, east of Middletown Line, while City staff will do maintenance on Greenly Line in Norwich.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock and Township of Norwich will work together after city council signed the Snow Maintenance Sharing Agreement.
The Township of Norwich will do winter maintenance on the City's portion of Patullo Avenue, east of Middletown Line, while City staff will do maintenance on Greenly Line in Norwich.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says the agreement improves the working relationship between the two communities.
"With the Township of Norwich, of course new lands on the south east of Woodstock have come into the city's jurisdiction. And when you look at where those boundaries lie, the roads that we're dealing with Patullo Avenue and Middletown Line there aren't areas a low can easily stop and turn around and head a different direction, so it makes sense for the plow to continue on that route. So Norwich will make sure that their crews keep the same standards of winter maintenance as what people are used to in the Friendly City, and through this agreement we'll make sure we cover some of those costs."
This comes after a past annexation with Norwich that has resulted in City staff being unable to perform winter maintenance part way down a rural road on Pattulo Avenue.
He says it will save both communities time and money.
"Anytime we can work together on any project with our neighbours to find efficiencies and cost savings, it's something that benefits everybody."
According to staff's report, the agreement can be cancelled by either party given a 60-day notice.
The agreement goes into effect this winter.
