Woodstock Police will be looking at booster seats during their fall seat belt campaign.
WOODSTOCK - Don't forget to buckle up when you hit the road as the Woodstock Police are joining the OPP in a seat belt blitz.
During the campaign officers will be looking to educate drivers on the proper use of child seats and booster seats during the campaign. WPS officers and members of the Oxford Injury Prevention Team will be attending Public Schools in the Friendly City to educate drivers about booster seat safety.
Officers will also be handing out tickets to people not wearing their seat belts and to ensure children are properly buckled up as well and in the appropriate car seat. Statistics show that Ontario's collision fatality rate has fallen 83% since 1976 when seat belts became mandatory.
The goal of the seat belt campaign this year is to raise public awareness about the importance of wearing seat belts and to educate drivers on the proper use of child car seats and booster seats.
Booster Seat Safety
Did you know?
" Seat belts are designed for adults not children.
" A child should use a booster seat until 9 - 12 years of age.
" All boosters must use a lap/shoulder seat belt.
" If you are using a lower back booster, your vehicle must have adjustable head restraints. They should not be set lower than the top of your child's ears.
