Oxford County has provided some comments to the Province on their zero waste strategy.
Oxford County is throwing their support behind the Provinces strategy for a Waste Free Ontario.
Oxford has already committed to becoming a zero waste community and the County is already actively moving towards this goal. Co-Chair of the Zero Waste Oxford Committee Bryan Smith tells Heart FM they have a few suggestions for the Province on how to move forward.
"We suggested among other things was the fact that Oxford County is different from other parts of the Province. Northern parts of the province are different from us and we are different from largely urban communities so we said their are probably local solutions that are going to roll out differently. So for instance in the area of organic waste, if you lived in an area that was just Condo Towers, then it may make sense to have pickups at each door of that building, in a place like Oxford County you would do a lot of driving to get a very little organic waste."
Oxford’s comments touch on options for organic waste solutions, the importance of public education and promotion.
The report, and an accompanying letter from Zero Waste Oxford and Future Oxford, also acknowledges the Province’s leadership in committing to zero waste.
