Zorra will implement a new vaccination policy in the New Year, requiring all Township staff members and council members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - The Township of Zorra has voted in favour of a strict new vaccination policy.
Under the current policy, unvaccinated staff and councillors can still go to work if they pass a COVID-19 test. Council has voted to implement a stricter policy starting in the New Year.
Mayor Marcus Ryan says the policy has changed and staff will need to be fully vaccinated to come to work by January.
"The policy will require vaccination of all council members and employees and that is now being extended to committee members and people attending council meetings. So everyone will need to be vaccinated and in the short term, you can produce a negative test result, but ultimately by the end of the year, everyone will need to be vaccinated."
Ryan says they don't anticipate having to lay anyone off with this policy.
"At this point, it doesn't look like we will. We are at 99% vaccinated and by the end of the year we will be at 100% and it is a condition of employment going forward that they be vaccinated against COVID-19, so I don't anticipate any problems moving forward."
The policy does allow for medical exemptions.
