Jack Broadfoot was named as the 2015 Senior of the Year for his work in the community and giving spirit.
The Township of Zorra has handed out the 2015 Ontario Senior of the year award to a very deserving individual.
Jack Broadfoot was given the honour this year. Broadfoot has been a member of the Thamesford Lions Club since 1974 and is currently serving his second term as President. He tells Heart FM he wasn't expecting to win the award. "I didn't know about it until the actual time - I had been asked to come to council for a different project and I was there and then my family showed up a few minutes later, and yes I was totally surprised and pleased and happy."
Broadfoot was recgonized for spearheading the campaign to raise funds for a new generator for Sakura house; the campaign raised nearly $100 000.
He also works tirelessly to support local food banks and always has time to help out in the community. In a release from the Township they said, "Through the Lions Club, he supports childrens' recreational events and pet rescue organizations. Never without a smile on his face, Jack is a valued member of our community!"
The Ontario Senior of the Year award gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to honour one outstanding local Ontarian who after the age of 65 has enriched the social, cultural or civic life of his/her community
