It's a hefty goal but this year's Baby Alex Teddy Bear Drive is looking to collect 2,000 brand new stuffed animals.
Mary Rodrigues created the Drive in memory of her son, Alexander Fleming who was killed by an impaired driver Thanksgiving weekend 2008 just days before he would have turned 5-months old.
Mary started the collections as a way to thank the hospitals that cared for her Alex and her after their crash. "Last year we collected and donated 1,670 stuffed animals, plus care baskets to both the Children's Health Foundation in London and the Woodstock Hospital Foundation. In the first three years we have donated over 4,300 stuffed animals".
Mary says the support of the community has been so overwhelming since Alex's passing coming up on five years October 14th. She says the support "is just amazing".
A family-fun event will kick off this year's event on Saturday at Ecole Secondaire Notre-Dame between 12-3pm. Click here to check out all of the details for the kick-off on the Heart FM Events page. Admission is free however donations of a brand new stuffed animal or monetary donations would be appreciated.
Donations of brand new stuff animals for the 4th Annual Baby Alex Teddy Bear Drive can be made at Heart FM, 223 Norwich Ave or Giant Tiger Woodstock until Friday October 11th.
