There will be a 24th team in the GOHL starting next season.
WOODSTOCK - Huge news has come out of the Friendly City when it comes to their hockey team.
A press conference was held at Southwood Arena at 5:00 p.m. today to announce that the Woodstock Navy Vets will become a part of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) to start the 2026-2027 season. The Vets will join the Western Conference, and in the coming weeks, a current Western Conference team will be moved to the East.
During the news conference, Commissioner Craig Spada said they're excited to welcome their 24th franchise to the league.
"Woodstock is a hockey town and that came to light very clearly in our vote with our 23 existing members. It was a unanimous vote and an exciting vote to have and therefore it is a real momentum change for the GOHL."
Navy Vets President Devon Young also thanked everyone who has supported team over the years.
"Players have been amazing over the years. The the facility managers, city council and everyone we have to deal with on a day-to-day basis have been phenomenal. To all of our volunteer staff, we wouldn't be here without you and thank you to our fans. Our fans are the best in the league and we hope they're going to be the best in the GOHL as well, I have no doubt that they will be."
In a statement released yesterday, the Navy Vets said they're still fully committed to the current PJHL season as they continue their pursuit of the Clarence Schmalz Cup.
